Mission Statement: To teach others how to buy and manage rental property and improve their overall financial education.
Welcome playmates!
You came to the right place if you’ve ever had a desire to:
- Be your own boss and build an income generating machine
- Be financially independent, never needing to depend on an employer for your financial security
- Insulate yourself from the stock market or the threat of losing your job
- Grow to be your best self and help improve the lives of others
- Attain true freedom, doing what you want, whenever you want, for as long as you want
On September 26th, 2008, I was somewhat expectedly downsized during The Great Recession after 16 years in the auto industry. Fortunately, this was not the traumatic experience it is for many people. I was pushed out the door with 25 weeks of severance, knowing my (very modest) house was paid off, and I had money in the bank. I still remember driving home with a smile on my face as I contemplated the excitement that lay ahead. This was all before I bought my first rental property or even the thought of the rental business!
All I knew was I was tired of doing the same thing, working hard to make someone else rich. My job paid decently, but I was just existing, never having true passion for my work. I felt like a drone built by our academic institutions for the betterment of corporate America, keeping me trapped in a struggle for survival. What I really wanted was to be able to stand on my own, to be financially self-sustaining.
Fast forward and eventually I went back to work after investigating various entrepreneurial options and a serious effort at currency trading. It was a nice 3-year break before surrendering and going back to the grind.
About 2 years into the same old same old “existing” routine, I was sitting at my home desk pondering my life purpose. I pretty much had all the material things I wanted, but something was missing, my life-long knowing that I was meant to be an entrepreneur, to do something more, to build something that would generate cash flow and provide the one thing I wanted most, my freedom.
I wanted to be FIRE’d (Financially Independent, Retired Early), yet still generating more than enough income such that my savings would continue to grow without reliance on the stock market. After living through 2 major bear markets — the dot com crash and the financial/housing crisis — I wanted control of my financial future.
So I reached for my mouse, opened Amazon, and purchased Rich Dad Poor Dad. Listening to the audio book was an emotional experience as I finally discovered my calling. The Rich Dad series of books began the de-brainwashing process and opened a whole new world hidden from traditional education. I knew with 100% certainty that acquiring rental property was what I was going to do, and I began designing a 5-7 year plan to freedom.
What I didn’t know was the details of how I was going to do it, and I was also not yet aware of the emotional rewards of providing quality homes for families.
The Rich Dad series is awesomely inspirational and educational, but they are not “how to” books.
I needed a book like this:
Cash Flow Playground: The Nitty-Gritty DETAILS of How to Buy, Renovate, and Manage Rental Property… to Generate Passive Income and Cash Flow Your Way to Freedom.
That’s what I’m going to teach!
I know all your questions because I had all the same questions. I was blessed to have found a couple good mentors to guide me along the journey. Those mentors’ insights combined with my real life experiences and a boatload of googling research are the basis for starting this blog.
Life is a process. Personal growth, building our skill-sets, knowledge, and confidence are part of the process. I hope I can help in the nurturing and development of your process to get you where you want to be.
Cheers to Your Personal Growth, Continued Health, and Future Wealth,
– Your brother Mike
